A flash mob of dancing elves surprised shoppers at Hatfield Galleria on Saturday, 10th November 2018.

The flash mob performed the Jive to Rockin’ Robin by the Jackson 5 and comprised of Rhythmix Academy and Nick’s Dance School, both based in Potters Bar, who were performing to raise awareness of dementia and the work of the Alzheimer’s Society on Elf Day.

Elf Day, 7th December, is the Alzheimer’s Society’s festive fundraising day, designed to get the public in the Christmas spirit whilst raising money to help beat dementia.

Emma Groves, owner of Rhythmix Academy, said: “When my nan was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease I felt I needed to do something positive. It is heartbreaking watching her deteriorate. The more awareness and funds we raise now, the less suffering there will be for future generations.”

Owner of Nick’s Dance School and ex-therapist, Terri Bodell said: “Dance has been proven to improve people’s long-term cognitive function, helping to keep conditions like Alzheimer’s at bay. It’s a great social activity and helps to keep people mobile and flexible. It’s never too late to get active and have fun!”

Soraya Bowen, Alzheimer’s Society Community Fundraiser for Hertfordshire said: “I’d like to thank Nicks Dance School and Rhythmix Academy for supporting our regional launch with a dancing elf mob, bringing a little festive cheer to shoppers and raising awareness about Elf Day.”
