Dance Classes

We run regular Monday group dance classes in Ballroom and Latin at Tilbury Hall, Potters Bar

Our adult dance classes are intended to be for pleasure first and foremost. We are here to give you confidence and to encourage you to want to dance for the rest of your life.

Nick’s Dance School offers simple and easy lessons designed for all abilities. Whether you are an absolute beginner or competent dancer our weekly Ballroom and Latin classes in Potters Bar can help you to develop your dance skills.

Even if you have two left feet, we can help you to put the right one forward with confidence.

We offer structured classes that teach you two dances in each lesson – one Ballroom and one Latin dance – over several weeks before moving onto new dances. We then re-visit these dances at a later stage adding more steps to increase your knowledge and improve your dancing skills. That way you can really master the basics of each dance before adding extra steps.

But we understand that you can’t always come to every weekly lesson, life tends to get in the way sometimes, so we don’t ask you to pay for a term in advance. You come as, and when, you want. Obviously this has big advantages, because it means you only pay for the classes you do. You can do as few, or as many classes as you want without obligation.

We are keen to encourage couples to enjoy our dance classes together so we will promise not to make you dance with anyone other than your own partner during the lesson

Our classes are relaxed and light-hearted but designed to give you the very best skills.

Dances taught are: Waltz, Quickstep, Social Foxtrot, Slow Foxtrot, Ballroom Tango, Viennese Waltz, Rumba, Cha Cha Cha, Ballroom Jive, Rock Jive, Samba, Mambo as well as Argentine Tango.

Come along and join us!

Enjoy dance lessons with us in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere – you’ll be impressed with what you can pick up in just a few classes!

Adult dance classes in Potters Bar – £6.50 per person per class

Monday nights at Tilbury Hall Potters Bar

Class 1:     6.45 – 7.45pm           Beginners & Beginners Plus

You’ll learn the basic steps and techniques in four Ballroom and four Latin dances. The classes are great fun and taught in a friendly and supportive atmosphere.

The Beginners and Beginners Plus classes take place at the same time, but with different teachers, and are perfect for those with little or no ballroom dance experience, interested in learning the basics of a variety of styles and gaining the ability to socially dance each of them.

1A Beginners: if you’re an absolute beginner, the teachers Sue and Anne-Marie help you to take those first steps.

1B Beginners Plus: you know some basics and want to add some new steps. Terri will help you to do this.

Within our Beginners lessons you will:

  • Learn to dance basic steps of four Ballroom dances (Social Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Quickstep)
  • Learn basics of four Latin dances (Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive, Mambo)
  • In 1B you’ll build on the dances taught in 1A, teaching some new steps in each of the dances.
  • Also in 1B you’ll learn the basics of leading and following with your partner

By the end of the 1A Beginner’s Programme you will be able to dance routines in all 8 dances with confidence and ease.  No more two left feet!

After completing a Ballroom and Latin Beginners courses, you’ll be ready to move up to our Improver classes.

There are no set times to move up from one class to the next now, as different people will learn at different speeds. When one class starts to feel too easy, just try the next one to see if you’re ready for it.

Class 2:     7.45 – 8.45pm           Improvers

Our Improvers class is designed for those with some previous experience in dance wishing to recap their basic skills or those who have attended Class 1 and now want to continue their journey in dance.

You’ll build on the basic steps and techniques learned in our beginner class and expand your repertoire of steps, as well as help you to polish off your technique to become more confident on the dance floor at social dances. We also introduce two new dances to your collection.

Within the Improvers lessons you will:

  • Add new steps in your Ballroom dances ie Waltz, Tango, Ballroom & Quickstep
  • Add additional Latin moves in the Cha Cha, Rumba, Jive & Mambo
  • Learn some basic steps of the Ballroom Foxtrot
  • Learn some basic steps of the Argentinian Tango
  • Focus on connection with your dance partner and improved dance positions

Class 3:     8.45 – 10.00pm                             Intermediate

This class is for those who already know how to socially dance all the Latin and Ballroom dances, or for those who have attended Classes 1 & 2 and who want to consolidate and improve their dancing skills (and add a few fancy bits).

You’ll learn routines in both Ballroom and Latin dances, expand your Argentinian Tango and learn Samba and Viennese Waltz.

This class will consist of approximately 45 minutes of instruction and 30 minutes social time (either before or after instruction), where you’ll have the opportunity to practise the steps you have learnt in a social environment.

Within the Intermediate lessons you will:

  • Build more complex routines and new step combinations in the Waltz, Foxtrot, Quickstep, Tango, Cha Cha Cha, Rumba & Jive
  • Expand your Argentinian Tango and add in some technique
  • Learn Samba and Viennese Waltz
  • Focus on correct technique so you that you dance the steps with confidence and style.

I am happy with how our class is run. I like our Master Classes and appreciate having the routines. I feel it helps build confidence with a dance. I like getting support with general technique in dances

Laura

Like the 1A and 1B split of the beginners class. Like the ‘warm up’ session at the start to practice the dances we already learned. Like the focus on 2 dances per session
